Meet WBF store Leader – Kathy B

Hailing form Wayson’s Corner, MD, Kathy Burnett, WBF retail manager, has been part of WBF since 1983. Kathy started her career path at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission as a file clerk. Upon meeting her husband, Kathy took on a new job – raising a family. After 13 years, she again found a new challenge. This time it was the Berry Farm. Kathy has watched and helped the farm grow and change from eh planting of the very first seedlings to acres of plantings, a new expanded market, kitchen and so much more! She has diligently promoted the farm business, quality of products and customer service satisfaction.

When asked what has helped to make her such a great manager, she refers to her childhood. Kathy was raised around business and contributes her characteristics to her mother’s nursing home business that was part of Kathy’s household growing up. She credits her mother for teaching her how to communicate well and how to be a nice person. Staff member of 11 years, Julia, thinks of Kathy as the backbone of the farm and delightfully remarks that “Kathy is always bringing us something good to eat… you know spaghetti, chili, whatever good she has made at home. She’s always thinking about us.” Kathy’s funniest moment everyone remembers? The day Kathy decided to clean the ice cream machine. She reassembled the entire machine without half of its parts and then proceeded to fill it with ice cream mix, only to have it leak out of the machine! Needless to say there was a “flood” of ice cream on the kitchen floor! Who knew Kathy could make such a mess!

Over the years, Kathy has become a familiar icon in the famer's market always ready to help customers and staff. She gives all she has to the farm and then a little extra. For all of her efforts, she is truly our hero!
